When you run an e-commerce website, one of the most important steps is enabling customers to pay you directly on your site. To do this, you need to integrate a payment gateway. Essentially, a payment gateway collects money from your customers and transfers it to your bank account. In India, there are many reliable payment gateways you can choose from. Let’s explore a few options I personally use or have used in the past.
1. Razorpay
Razorpay is one of the most trusted payment gateways in India, used by many businesses (including my own in the past). Let me share a quick look at its highlights:
- Setup Charges: Varies (often zero for basic setup)
- Transaction Fees: 2% + GST
- Settlement Time: 2–3 business days
- Key Features: Multiple payment modes (credit/debit card, net banking, UPI, etc.), easy integration
Razorpay’s dashboard is user-friendly, and it’s a solid choice if you want a reliable gateway for most Indian customers.
2. Cosmofeed
Cosmofeed is a relatively new brand (around 2–3 years old) that I currently use for one of my projects called Chatbot Wonder. While its transaction fees are a bit higher, it’s straightforward to use and has a clean dashboard.
- Setup Charges: Varies
- Transaction Fees: 10%
- Settlement Time: Next day
- Key Features: Multiple payment modes, user-friendly interface
Note: Because of the slightly higher transaction fee, you might want to consider your profit margins and the volume of transactions before choosing Cosmofeed.
3. Cashfree
I only recommend payment gateways I’ve personally tested. Cashfree is another gateway I use for my course platform, TheDigitalSchool.io. All course payments there go through Cashfree, and I’ve found it quite efficient.
- Setup Charges: 0
- Transaction Fees: 10%
- Settlement Time: Under 24 hours
- Key Features: Accepts domestic and international payments
Cashfree stands out for quick settlements and smooth international transaction handling.
4. PayPal
You should consider PayPal if you have international clients. While Razorpay, Cashfree, and Cosmofeed all support international payments to some extent, I’ve experienced issues receiving funds from certain countries. PayPal often fills those gaps.
- Setup Charges: 0
- Transaction Fees: ~4%
- Settlement Time: Up to 2 days
- Key Features: Handles both domestic and international payments smoothly
If you cater heavily to an overseas market, PayPal can be a valuable addition despite the slightly higher fees.

Conclusion
Selecting the right payment gateway can make or break the shopping experience for your customers. Evaluate each gateway based on transaction fees, setup costs, settlement times, and supported payment methods. Also consider whether you need strong international payment support. Once you’ve chosen a gateway, set it up on your website, test a couple of transactions, and you’ll be good to go.
